Create an Azure budget alert

Once you start using cloud any cloud platform it is important that track your cost and find ways saving money and control to stay within your budget.

This article only targets one of the easy steps that you could do to get an alert to an action group if concern subscription goes over the monthly budget in Azure.

Overview of the steps

  1. Go to the Cost Management + Bill section on the portal
  2. Goto the Cost Management
  3. Click and go to Create a budget on the right plane of the overview section
  4. Click the + Add on the right plane
  5. Fill out the form with the desired amount and the frequency of accumulation
  6. Fill out the Alert section of the same form with a percentage of the cost going over the budget and alert receiving group.
  7. Click the create button to create the budget alert

If you need to get this alert via sms then action group need to configure the Action Groups or create a new one group to receive the SMS. Creating an action group is not the scope of this document. I have included the below screenshot in azure monitor where you can modify or add new action groups

Once the alert is set up and completed. In the budget, the section should be able to see the progress of the month and how well it tracking within the budget.
